Dream Interpretation - The Meaning of Rainbows

77

By Leah Whitehorse

I dreamed I was stood in a garden, gazing into the sky. As I watched, rainbows began to appear. At first there were tiny rainbows scattered across the sky but eventually two huge rainbows sat side by side. They were glorious and vivid in colour and I felt excited and awed by them.

Rainbows have a strong significance to me and are connected to my personal life. In this dream however I recognised they also represented the two distinct projects I am currently working on.

The rainbow is a symbol for hope; it’s arch a bridge between heaven and earth. Rainbows are associated with the goddess Iris and it was she who like Hermes, carries the caduceus. She is a messenger between the Gods and mankind and a bringer of peace.

In the biblical story of Noah’s Arc, it is the rainbow that symbolises the Christian God’s promise that he would not flood the earth again. Rainbows therefore are also connected to promises and reconciliation.

In fairy tales we hear of the pot of gold at the end of the rainbow. I can still remember running across the fields as a child trying to reach the end of the rainbow, always sure that this time…this time I would find it. That symbol stayed with me into adulthood - always chasing rainbows and never quite finding what I was looking for.

Rainbows traditionally show 7 colours. The 7 colours relate to the 7 chakras and the 7 traditional planets in astrology. If you have dreamed of a rainbow and one colour stands out, it may mean you need to address the aspects of life connected to the corresponding chakra or planet.

To me, the rainbow shows that when we have hope then we can communicate our desires and our passions. When we experience hope and peace we find the gold - the treasure that was inside of us all along. We are free to expression our colours - our skills and talents. When we make a promise to ourselves and keep it, we learn to trust ourselves.

Without hope, life can seem dreary and grey. The rainbow reminds us to look up and see the beauty that is all around us. Rainbows can fade quickly so it is important to act when inspiration strikes.

When rainbows come into your life consider the following:

Have you felt in despair recently?
Do you have high hopes about someone or something?
Are you hoping for a reconciliation?
Do you need to keep a promise?
Are you ‘chasing rainbows’?

As with any symbol, consider what your immediate feelings and associations are. Do you focus on the beauty of the moment or think of how quickly a rainbow fades? Do you remember the storm or the sunshine?

Rainbow brings hope after despair and peace after anger. It is a promise kept and a coming together. Rainbow says “Find me in you. Heal your chakra’s. Express your colours without shame and allow yourself to dream. The pot of gold is within you. “

I'm not sure about your interpretation, but I'd rather dream about rainbows than getting hit by a nuclear missile (that was my last vivid dream).

Lol, Brooke - given the choice I think I'd go for rainbows as well :-) Thanks for your comment.

Hi Leah, I never knew about the connection with the chakras. That is interesting to me. While I was reading your hub, it brought a smile in my heart because I remember that I often see rainbows whenever I needed some sort of assurance that all is well. And it brings me in a state of joy that's for sure!

I had a dream of rainbows over a garden with trees, 4 stacked on top of each other. In the dream I remember others commenting on how rare it is to see 4 like this. Any ideas on this?
